3/9/2016 0 Comments Work of the Heart![]() The main focus of the work I do is to facilitate healing, personal growth, authenticity and empowerment through a integrative, holistic, and transformational process that I call "work of the heart". It's a style of working with my my clients that restores the heart as a primary focus. I have come to have a deep reverence for the wisdom and intelligence of how the heart works, how it speaks through symptoms and images, how it longs for love and connection with the world and its need for beauty. I see this every day in my work. Whatever we experience, whatever challenges we are facing, whatever pain and suffering we are enduring, is held within our body and in how we perceive the world and other people and even ourselves. And so, it's a reflection of the condition of our own heart. This truth, like all truths, comes from my own personal healing journey over the last 20 years, working with therapists, healers and spiritual teacher's, as well as from my professional work as an intuitive, integrative psychotherapist. In my work with my clients, we go deeply to the heart and soul of emotional pain and patterns. With integrative tools and experiential awareness, this heart work reverently and fluidly touches the deepest layers of fear, anger, sadness, grief and loss. Learning to face the pain and feel it also ignites the energy of courage, a word that has its origin in the word, "coeur" (french) which means "heart." Activating this heart energy is the transformational alchemy needed to heal and restore authenticity. And it's not easy. I have witnessed this healing alchemy countless times working with over 200 people in private sessions. This work restores a vital connection to the heart, which then opens up the courage to experience the feelings within and accept what is happening and not turn away and avoid or detach from what is felt as painful or uncomfortable. This process turns what is very painful, difficult and fearful emotional energy into being able to feel everything - just as it is and just as you are. In other words, you become capable of feeling what is happening in you and all around you. You don't just feel better, you get much better at 'feeling'. "Where there is sorrow, there is holy ground," wrote Oscar Wilde. Holy ground can relate to feeling 'whole' and grounded. It's also called being "integrated." Through this 'heart' work we are made whole and real and we begin to feel grounded because we are reconnected to an authentic self and the 'beat' of our own heart. What has become clear to me is the powerful role the heart plays as 'the healer' in our lives. It is the main connector to our soul and to everything and everyone. It is our navigator and therefore, the main source of light within us that helps us see and understand what is going on - what is taking place - and what is the truth of our lives. Through having a vital relationship to our own heart we develop more capacity to respond, to protect and to restore whatever has been damaged, distorted, and dishonored in our human life. We all need to develop a closeness and relationship to our own heart. By going "in" we develop 'in-sight' to the condition of own emotional body. If we don't have this closeness, we will basically lack the awareness about where our pain is coming from and this leads to increasingly more pain, more discomfort, more fear, more anxiety, more anger and of course, more sadness and grief. If we go too long with unhealed and undigested pain, we will eventually feel deep despair, hopelessness, powerlessness and shame - all destructive emotions that affect our health and can lead to cruelty or indifference towards our self and of course, our own heart and the hearts of others. Connecting to your heart is the place to begin to give yourself attention to your emotional body and pain. This is a very natural way to connect the dots. What could be a more powerful perceptual and healing tool than being able to heal your own pain by seeing with the eyes of your own heart? Work with me to discover how to get to the other side of your emotional pain. Be prepared to awaken the hidden power of your own heart and begin to feel empowered as a result - to embrace life and who you are in ever-deepening ways.
